Michelle Gauthier is a 26 year old artist and graduate from the Ontario Collage of Art and Design (OCADU) with a bachelor of fine arts in Criticism & Curatorial Practices. She also has a graduate certificate in Culture & Heritage Site Management from Centennial College. She started out as a painter at 13 years old, but has since moved on to work mainly in embroidery. It is because of this change in mediums that she feels very passionately about challenging the notion that works of the ‘fine art’ are more valuable than those of ‘craft’.

I began to paint and create mixed-media work in 2010. My journey began when I visited Paris, France, for the very first time. I had an argument with "someone" at Le Louvre. My claim in being an artist was in question. The root of my anger stems from the fact that being an 'artist' is not because of what I do but it is because of who I am. This argument pressed my reset button and the rest as they say is history. I married my critic at Le Louvre and blew wide-open the double doors into my creative vault.

I'm a young tattoo artist who has recently moved to Toronto from Sochi, Russia. I have completed a tattooing course in Krasnodar, Russia. After returning home, I did tattooing for one year. At the moment I'm working on my own but would like to start work at a salon as I feel I could use the platform for getting my work out there as it is my specialty.
